All patterns use crochet. This 20-page booklet contains 17 or so classic bedspread patterns and some collars, cuffs, tablecloth, placemat and doily patterns. The patterns use vintage “Daisy Mercerized Crochet Cotton” and “Lily Mercrochet” predominantly in size 10; some patterns use sizes 5, 20 or 30 crochet thread. Modern sizes 5, 10, 20 and 30 crochet thread are likely excellent matches although I’d suggest trying size 3 for the patterns calling for size 5 since size 5 crochet thread is often hard to find in a mercerized cotton (and using pearl cotton 5 would be cost prohibitive imho). The crochet patterns predominantly use a vintage crochet hook No. 7 which for this time period was most likely using Milward’s hook sizes so most likely equivalent to a modern US No. 7 steel crochet hooks or a 1.65mm hook; some patterns use No. 8 (1.5mm), No. 11 (1.1mm), or No. 12 (1.0mm) hooks. Overall, these patterns read in such a way you should have no problems understanding them in a modern context. I would rate the patterns as overall moderate in difficulty.
This digital scan is a complete reproduction of the entire booklet. Note that due to excessive staining and yellowing on the pages of my copy of this book, I have scanned the pages in black and white/greyscale in order to optimize readability of the text. Each page has been extensively cleaned up, but it has not been retyped or updated to current terminology and/or techniques.
