This classic antique crochet pattern book from 1891 contains really well written and pictured instructions on how to crochet, numerous crochet stitches and a large number of patterns, with a VERY large selection of patterns suitable for edgings, trimmings or squares to modify or combine to create other objects. There is also a small section on hairpin lace (including instructions) and quite a few clothing, scarf, afghan, blanket, shawl, and other patterns. There’s a ton of patterns in this book; I’ve only pictured some of them. The patterns are written in a very verbose style that I found easy to follow. The book doesn’t list any specific type of yarn or thread to use (other than “Kensington crochet twine” on two or three patterns); I’ve used modern crochet thread size 10 with success on the few patterns I’ve crocheted from this book. For some of the finer items, modern crochet thread size 20 or 30 may be more suitable.
This book is a classic, a must-have for vintage crochet fanatics imho!
This book is already widely distributed in the public domain. This PDF file is from HathiTrust, and I’ve uploaded it here for your convenience.
